Four steps
How to use the calculator
Choose a common service or search the full list. You will only be asked for the details relevant to that service under the Bulgarian calculation rules.
01
Choose your service in Bulgaria
Select the type of case or document. For a court case, check whether you need representation at the initial court stage (first instance) or on appeal. For criminal defence, select the maximum penalty provided by law for the charge. For a notarial deed, select the transaction type.
02
Enter the value and case details
Enter the claim amount, transaction value or other amount requested by the form. This is the value used to calculate the fee, not the fee itself. Add the number of documents and any other required details. Select VAT where applicable; the amounts update automatically.
03
Add any additional services
Include only the work you need the lawyer to carry out. Add notary and registration charges separately where relevant. If several services relate to the same court case, include a shared court fee only once.
04
Review each cost and choose a document
Check the lawyer’s fee, taxes and other charges, together with the rule used for each calculation. Change any details if needed. You can then download a written fee proposal from BSLC or prepare a payment form for one selected Bulgarian court fee.
Legal costs in Bulgaria
What can you calculate?
The lawyer’s work and the fees paid to Bulgarian courts, notaries and registries are separate items. Each uses the rules and calculation base relevant to the service you select.
The lawyer’s fee
Advice, drafting contracts and other documents, court representation, defence and appeals. Services cover property, family, inheritance, employment, business and other legal matters in Bulgaria.
Court and government fees
These are separate from the lawyer’s fee. The amount depends on the type and stage of the proceedings, the claim value and the selected circumstances. Any amount that still needs to be confirmed is clearly marked.
Notary and registration costs
Where relevant, add the cost of notarisation and registration in the relevant Bulgarian register. Drafting a notarial deed is a lawyer’s service; the notary’s own fee is shown separately.
VAT and local tax
Value added tax (VAT) on lawyer and notary services is included when selected and applicable. For local tax, enter the relevant value and the rate for the Bulgarian municipality concerned.
Services across 13 categories
Advice and documents
Contracts and mediation
Property and division of co-owned assets
Inheritance
Family matters
Civil and employment cases
Business and insolvency
Challenges to public authority decisions
Appeals and court documents
Enforcement proceedings
Criminal defence
Fines and administrative offences
Special proceedings
Costs that still need to be confirmed
Expert reports, translations, travel, security deposits and other case-specific expenses may need a separate assessment. An amount that cannot be calculated from your details is marked for confirmation and is not included as a zero-cost item.
Choose the calculation that fits your matter
Lawyer’s representation + court filing fee
Bringing a civil claim in a Bulgarian court
Select the claim type and the initial court stage (first instance). Enter the values requested. The lawyer’s fee and the court filing fee appear separately. If you claim only part of a debt or dispute a property right, the value used for each fee may differ.
Agreement drafting + notary and registry costs
Dividing jointly owned property by agreement
Choose drafting a voluntary partition agreement and enter the relevant property value. Add notarisation and registration if needed. If the co-owners need a court to divide the property, choose judicial partition instead and specify the stage and the client’s share.
Your next step
A written fee proposal or a court payment form
Keep a clear record of the proposed legal work, or prepare the paperwork for a court fee in Bulgaria.

PDF · two copies
Payment form for a Bulgarian court fee
Select one court fee and choose a bank transfer order or cash deposit slip. Enter the court’s payment details, its verified IBAN, the person who owes the fee and the payment reference. The official-form PDF is in Bulgarian and contains two copies.
For an exact calculated fee, the amount is filled in automatically.
For a fee shown as a range, use the exact amount in the court’s instructions.
Take the form to your bank. Creating a PDF does not make or confirm a payment.
Frequently asked questions
Which Bulgarian rules does the calculator use?
The lawyer’s fee is calculated using Bulgarian Ordinance No. 1 of 9 July 2004 on Remuneration for Legal Work, including the amendments published in Bulgaria’s State Gazette No. 14 of 18 February 2025. The selected service and your inputs determine the calculation. The lawyer and client agree the actual fee and terms of the work in a contract.
Is the total the amount I pay the lawyer?
The total can include several types of cost. The breakdown shows the lawyer’s fee, VAT, court fees, notary and registration fees, and local tax separately. It only adds the items included in your calculation. Costs that still need to be assessed are identified separately.
Can I include several services or an appeal?
Yes. Add each service with its own details. Use separate entries for different claim values, people or proceedings, and check the court stage for each entry. Do not add document drafting separately if it is already included in the lawyer’s representation.
Which currency is used?
The main calculation is in euros (EUR). You can also enter amounts in Bulgarian lev (BGN) or display their reference equivalent at EUR 1 = BGN 1.95583. Changing the input currency converts amounts already entered. Court payment forms are prepared in EUR.
Will the form find the Bulgarian court’s bank account for me?
No. Copy the current payee name and IBAN from the relevant court’s official payment instructions. The calculator checks the IBAN’s format and check digits, but cannot confirm who owns the account. Use a separate form for each payee.
Where are my proposal and payment details processed?
The Word and PDF files are generated in your browser. Names, identification numbers and bank details entered in these document forms are not sent to an external document generator or saved in browser local storage. You keep the downloaded file.
